Kentucky Registration

All carriers having vehicles with a combined licensed weight of 60,000 pounds or greater, must complete the Kentucky Trucking Application to apply for KYU number.

Kentucky law requires each vehicle with a combined licensed weight of 59,999 pounds or greater to be listed with the carrier’s Kentucky Highway Use Tax License Number (KYU). All the vehicle addition or deletions subject to Weight Distance (KYU) Tax and should be added or deleted from the Kentucky Taxable Vehicle Inventory.

Every registrants, owners and operators of all commercial motor vehicle having a gross vehicle weight in excess of 59,999 pounds or more has to file the Weight Distance Tax Return on a quarterly basis. These returns have to be filed on or before the last day of the month following the close of the report period. The report period begins on the first day of a calendar quarter and ends on the last day of the calendar quarter.
